St Jerome was a very educated man, both in the classical texts and in religious texts. Showing St Jerome in his study, writing was therefore one of the most popular motifs.

He is often shown wearing his red cardinal’s drape (fake, he never was a cardinal) and with his lion (also fake, he didn’t have a lion).
